PHILOSOPHY
Written by Frank Macchia [Principal Designer]
I am deeply interested in exploring the next phase of how we live - in our homes, in our communities, on our planet, and as part of the greater cosmos.
My design journey has moved through several overlapping cultural movements. I began with renovations of traditional character homes in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, then evolved into the Modernist mindset with its mantra of “less is more.” Later, I embraced the playful, no-rules deconstructionism of Postmodernism, with its counter-cry of “less is a bore.”
But over the last decade, I’ve been asking: what comes next? What follows Postmodernism?
I believe we are entering a Meta-Modern, or Integral, way of seeing the world. If so, what does this mean for the spaces we inhabit? My intuition is that homes and buildings will now be judged less by how they look, and more by how they make us feel.
For all its innovations, Postmodernism carried one less useful side effect: it stripped out essence - the intangible, immeasurable, metaphysical qualities of life. My highest aim is to create homes that restore this essence. Spaces that encourage contemplation, meditation, and reflection. Homes that help us ask the “big questions,” deepen our ability to feel, and inspire us to grow into better, more fulfilled human beings.
To achieve this, I design homes that embrace paradox. They must be:
Humble and beautiful
A private retreat and a place to connect and entertain
Cave-like and yet open to the outside world
Raw and natural while also embracing appropriate innovation
Simple yet full of character
Uncluttered yet warm
Comfortable yet capable of taking us beyond our comfort zones
Above all, our homes must now become places of growth - not only physically nourishing our bodies, but also expanding our hearts, minds, and spirits.
HEALING SANCTUARIES
-
At the heart of my design practice is a deep intention: to create spaces that support profound healing, places where there are moments available for the mind to find stillness, where the body can restore itself, and reveal glimpses of something forgotten.
My vision also extends further. I believe the future of health lies not in sterile, synthetic environments of today’s medical centres but in warm nurturing spaces designed for the wholeness of the human being- mind, body, heart, and spirit. I am seeking like-minded collaborators and investors who share this calling: to co-create public healing centres that offer a new model of wellness.
-
These centres will serve as an alternative—and ultimately an evolution—beyond the current 3D model of medical clinics and hospitals. Their purpose is to help people quiet the endless chatter of the thinking mind and and get some essential peace by shifting out of the beta brainwave state associated with stress and survival, into more restorative states:
Alpha – calm focus, light meditation
Theta – deep meditation, creativity, emotional release
Delta – profound rest and cellular regeneration
Gamma – states of expanded consciousness and spontaneous healing
-
Our bodies contain an extraordinary inner pharmacy—the ability to produce precisely the chemicals, peptides, and signals needed for healing—once the mind is quiet and aligned. These centres will use a range of time-tested and cutting-edge practices to activate this innate intelligence, including:
Rest, sleep, and hypnagogic states
Heart coherence techniques
Guided meditation and visualisation
Breath work, sound therapy, and vibrational healing including full-body cymatics
Light, dappled light, shadow, and colour
Integration of nature through courtyards, gardens, and flowing water
Sacred geometry and raw natural materials
Eventually, as regulations evolve - plant medicines, used with care, reverence, and skilled facilitation
-
These spaces will weave together the wisdom of ancient cultures—who understood rhythm, vibration, and natural alignment—with the breakthroughs of modern neuroscience, epigenetics, and consciousness research.
-
The intention is simple yet bold: to create sanctuaries where people can remember that healing comes not from outside, but from within. By aligning the environment with the body’s natural states of repair and regeneration, these centres will help unlock human potential and reframe what “medicine” means in the 4D and 5D world we are stepping into.
If you feel called to contribute, co-create, or invest in this vision, I invite you to reach out. Together, we can design spaces that move us from fear to love, from survival to thriving, and from separation to wholeness.
